protect us from riya’

From the Messenger of Allah, Rasulullah s.a.w,
” The First of people who will be judged on the Day of Judgement will be a man who has died a martyr. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and will recognize them. (ALLAH) will say: And what did you do with them..? He will say: I fought for you until i died a martyr. (ALLAH) said: YOU HAVE LIED. YOu did fight so that it might be said(0f you). He is courageous. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hellfire.
(Next) will be a man who has studied(religious) knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Quran. he will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and he will recognize theme. (ALLAH) will say: And what did you do with them? He will say: I studied (religious) knowledge and taught it and I recited the Quran for Your Sake. Allah will say: You have lied. You did but study (religious) knowledge so that it might be said (of you). He is learned. And you recited the Quran so that it might be said(of you). He is a reciter. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hellfire.
(Then) will come a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make known to him His Favors and he will recognize them. Allah will say: And what did you do with them? He will say: I have left no way in which You like money to be spent without spending for Your sake. Allah will say: You have lied. You did but do so that it might be said(of you). He is generous. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged on his face until he is cast into Hellfire.”

...

So, be careful. We, are in great danger. Think, what we really want. Yes, i said that we have to be somebody big. But it is not for fame and popularity. Never hope that we will leave this world with great deeds which people will talk about. What we are doing is not for others, but for Ourselves. Allah doesn’t need us but He acknowledge His servants that tied their best to fight for His Ad- Deen..
May Allah protect us from riya’..

dua dua dua .. doa doa doa

Give me a strength to overcome whatever problem he might face in his da’wah.. I wish nothing more than to be a pious wife for YOu and for him.. Let my family feel the way I feel right now. Let them know that Islam is such a wonderful thing. Not something that is seen as old- fashioned. Protect my family. I am weak. I am in the need of your help. Please… Allah.. Please… Let me be a mujahhid… with this.. i end my dua’ Ya ALlah.. I end it with thanking You oh ALLAH.. without you.. I am nothing.. Amin Ya Rab Al- Alamin…

31 Personal Duas to Choose From

source

http://www.soundvision.com/info/ramadan/10.dua.asp

by Abdul Malik Mujahid

Dua (supplication) is the essence of worship. (Anas, may Allah be pleased with him related that the Prophet said this as reported in Tirmidhi).

The Prophet said: Duas of three persons are not refused: a fasting man when breaking the fast, a just ruler, and an oppressed person, Allah's blessings be upon him. (Abu Huraira in Tirmidhi).

No one makes a Dua without Allah giving him what he asks for, or keeping away from him a similar amount of evil, provided he does not ask for something sinful, or for breaking family ties (Jabir related this as the Prophet saying: Tirmidhi).

For a number of non-Arabic speaking Muslims, Duas are sometimes perceived as the good Arabic words Imams utter after prayers. They usually resort to simply repeating "Ameen" after everyone else, without understanding what they are asking Allah for.

Other non-Arabic speaking Muslims may try to memorize some of the major Duas in Arabic and can and do understand what's being said.

But one thing that's often forgotten about Dua is that it's direct communication with Allah. And Allah is multilingual. He actually created and knows all languages, whether it's the specific dialect of your village back home of the street talk of urban America.

Allah also knows what's hidden in the deep recesses of our hearts. Those feelings of pain, anguish, resentment, love, hatred, bitterness, longing, etc. that we so successfully hide from everyone else, including our closest family members and friends.

So why not let it all out. Why not let Allah be your "therapist". Let your prayer mat be your "couch" while you reveal and ask the One who is in control, Who knows you better than you know yourself, for all that you want in these next ten days and especially, nights, of Ramadan.

There are Duas that are definitely part of the Sunnah which you can and should use during Laylatul Qadr.

For example in this Hadith: It is narrated from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the Night of Qadr what should I say?.' He said: 'Say: O Allah you are embodiment of forgiveness and you love to pardon so pardon me.' [Ahmad, Ibn Majah, Tirmidhi]

However, Dua cannot be done in a distracted manner, as the Prophet has said in a Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira: Make Dua and be assured of being answered, and know that Allah does not answer a Dua from a careless heart which is not concentrating (Tirmidhi).

Here are some examples of personal, relevant Duas you can make in these remaining days of Ramadan, Insha Allah (God willing):

1. Oh Allah, please forgive me for all of the bad that I've done, and I continue to do. You are so Merciful and kind, please forgive me, and help me stay away from all that's wrong. It's so hard for me, and I'm so weak but You are the Strong. Please increase me in sincerity.

2. Oh Allah, I beg You, please guide my parents and my sister toward You. Do not let them die without realizing who their Lord is. Let them see the truth and help them resist the pressure of friends who try to turn them away from You.

3. Oh Allah, bless those fine human beings with your bounties whose kind heart reaches out to their Christian neighbors in Pakistan and Muslim neighbors in America.

4. Oh Allah, please guide my neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis, toward You. They are such decent, good people, and they are so good to us. They have never opposed us in our Deen, and You have seen how they have been so open to us. Please guide them to the right path.

5. Oh Allah, make every single aspect of my life be for You and in service of Your Creation. Please remove all false intentions that I have.

6. Oh Allah, save humanity from being its own enemy. Protect Your creation from oppression. Save the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Kashmir, and Chechnya from internal and external oppressors and give them justice. Protect us all from violence, fear and danger, You are our Protector.

7. Ya Allah, let me love You as You deserved to be loved, and let me fear You as You deserve to be feared, and let me leave this world serving Your creation for Your sake.

8. Oh Allah, increase me in knowledge, but let this knowledge be with sincerity, not seeking fame, glory, status, material wealth. Let this knowledge serve Your cause in a way that You accept, and let it benefit humanity.

9. Oh Allah, please guide my children and all children. They are surrounded by so much temptation and Haram (forbidden things). Protect them my Lord from all of the evil influences that are around them. Give them friends who will strengthen their faith and help them stay on the Straight Path.

10. Oh Allah, guide me to seek my knowledge of You and this blessed Deen (religion) from those who are sincere, who possess the correct Islamic knowledge, who are moderate and gentle, who are not harsh or impatient with me, and who understand where I'm coming from, my situation as a Muslim in this country, living in this world today.

11. Oh Allah, please help me stay away from Haram in achieving the best of this world.

12. Oh Allah, don't let me ever turn away from You, no matter how many trials and difficulties You test me with. Let these difficulties serve to make me a stronger Muslim and more sincere to You.

13. Oh Allah, bless our scholars and leaders who are striving to establish Islam in this world on the balanced path of Your beloved Prophet.

14. Oh Allah, bless all of those who have taught me about You and Islam, from little Marya at the Islamic school, who taught me the importance of being patient with little kids, to Shaykh Ikram, who, despite his harshness, taught me the importance of speaking the Truth, no matter how much others dislike it.

15. Oh Allah, give me the ability to forgive all those who have hurt me in word and deed, especially my brother ......, who has ignored every attempt I have made to reconcile with him. And please Oh Allah, join our hearts.

16. Oh Allah, please get me out of this horrible debt that is burdening me. Please give me means that are Halal (Islamically permissible) to get out of this as soon as possible, so that I can face You on the Day of Judgment free of all debts.

17. Oh Allah, open a way for my son to marry as soon as possible. Let him marry a sister who is sincere and devoted to You and who is compatible with him.

18. Oh Allah, open a way for my daughter Salma to marry as soon as possible. Let her marry a brother who is sincere and devoted to You and who is compatible with her.

19. Oh Allah, please grant my friend Ali and his wife Shaheen healthy children. They so badly want children and they Insha Allah would make such great Muslim parents. Please grant them children who will grow up to be a source of Mercy for them.

20. Oh Allah, help orphans and poor wherever they are, but especially right now in Afghanistan. Give me the means and ability to do whatever I can for them.

21. Oh Allah, guide and protect our teenagers who need Your Help and Guidance from all of the temptations of sex, drugs, alcohol and all of the other Harams in our society.

22. Oh Allah, cleanse my heart of the sicknesses of arrogance and pride and let me die as one of the sincere, humble Muslims.

23. Oh Allah, all of my brothers and sisters who are suffering for Your sake through torture, violence, in jails, etc., around the world please forgive their sins and grant them Paradise.

24. Oh Allah, I have been so impatient and angry in my behavior, please give me patience and help me control my anger for Your sake.

25. Oh Allah, open a way for me to make Hajj as soon as possible, so that I can fulfill my obligation to You.

26. Oh Allah, give my sister Lisa patience with her cancer. She is in so much pain because of her treatments. Please give her patience and let her sickness be a way for her sins to be forgiven.

27. Oh Allah, bless brothers Ali, Mike and Manzoor, who are always at our Masjid working on repairs, cleaning bathrooms or keeping the place clean after everyone else has left a mess.

28. Oh Allah, lift the veils from the eyes of those who have been deceived into seeing Islam as something bad because of ignorance and media stereotypes.

29. Oh Allah, bring all humans closer to You and each other. Please do not make us Muslims a test for them with our misrepresentation of Islam because of our bad behavior.

30. Oh Allah, help me stop my bad habits of eating and talking too much.

31. Oh Allah, please help me give up smoking this year. It's so hard to give up smoking after all of these years, but only You can make it easy.

These duas are being written just as guidelines. No names are real. Please adopt, modify, and write your own Duas. If you like. share those with others in our forums. The point is to get into talking to our Lord directly, in our style, in our language. While talking to Him with our forehead on His earth in Sajdah (prostration), we may reach a point where our words and minds may give way to a reflective heart which may help us talk to our Lord. It is Sajdah (the position of prostration in prayer) where a servants talks to his Lord.

Please don't say that Allah knows what you need. Yes, He does. But He also loves to hear from you. Consider this Hadith: Abu Huraira related that the Prophet said: Allah is angry with those who do not ask Him for anything (Tirmidhi).

Percayalah.

Setelah lancar barulah baca surah ini sepenuhnya.
Allah hanya uji hamba yang disayangi Ujian saya dulu tak kurang hebatnya.

Amalan lain seperti solat Dhuha, puasa sunat dan bersedekah pasti memberi pengalaman luarbiasa.

Tahniah kepada semua. Selamat beramal.

A Woman Who Reads...

A Woman Who Reads...

One morning a husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, his wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, drops anchor and begins to read her book. Along comes a game warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies.

"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.

"I'm sorry, Officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault, "says the woman.

"But I have not even touched you," says the game warden.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

"Have a nice day, ma'am," he said, and left.

Moral of this story: Never argue with a woman who reads.
It is likely she can also think.

Case Study: Year 2 Intensive Reading Support Materials

Session 2: Assessing the class using a running record

Key points Session notes
Aims and overview The aim of the session is to:

 Assess Year 2 children working between levels 1b and 2b using running records.

 Identify the target group

Before the session
 Familiarise yourself with the texts to be used for assessment and the conventions/process used for taking running records. (See PM Benchmark Kit, or guidance on running records in additional resources and Resource 5: Using Running Records.)
 Prepare a folder of duplicate running record forms for texts to be used for assessment.
 Obtain a class list for Year 2 with current NC/ Book Band levels from the teacher. (See Resource 4: Year 2 Tracking sheet.)
 Find a quiet place to administer the assessments close to the classroom.
 Arrange for teacher and Literacy Coordinator to observe for at least 30 minutes during the assessments.

Assessing the children

 Use the standard procedures and a standardised recording sheet for administering the running records.

It is important to explain to the children that you will not be prompting or praising during the assessment. You need to remain objective!

 Introduce the book by saying 'This book is called…It is about…the names of the people in it are…' The content of the story should not be discussed in any more detail.
 When the child has finished reading the text (150-200 words is sufficient) ask 3-4 questions to find out how well he/she has understood what they have read. Make sure you include recall and inference in your questions.
 Calculate the child’s accuracy level and self-correction rate. If the accuracy level is between 90% and 94%, and the child shows understanding of the text, their instructional level for guided reading has been identified. If the accuracy rate is above 94%, repeat the procedure with a text at the next level up. If below 90% use a text at the level below.
 Analyse and summarise the child’s reading behaviour on the running record. Note strategies they are using and recommendations for teaching. (Which searchlights are used/neglected?) Include a note about ability to answer literal and inferential questions too. (Use Resources 6,8 and 10.)
 If children’s phonic knowledge is an issue in their reading make a note to follow this up with the class teacher.

Identify the target group.

 Choose a group of six children who will be the target group for the class teacher to focus on and move to level 2 (or 2b) before KS1 tests. Children reading at Orange, Turquoise or Purple would be suitable.
 Decide on an additional group of up to six children to target. You will plan your demonstration guided reading lesson for this group.

(Deciding the target group should be done with the class teacher if possible)

Additional notes
 Time taken for assessments will vary. You may need to administer more than one assessment to gain a precise reading level for some children.

 You will need to assess enough children to identify a target group to plan for with the teacher and an additional group slightly above or below the target group to gain data on which to base your demonstration lesson, i.e. precise reading level and strategies to focus on.
Class teacher(s) to observe for part of the time if possible.
Allow at least two hours for the assessments. The time will vary according to the accuracy of the levels you receive from the class teacher and the numbers of children to be assessed. If need be, you could identify just the one group, teach a demonstration lesson using them and plan another lesson with the teacher to be used for the observation.

Resources
Resource 5: Using Running Records
Resource 4: Year 2 tracking sheet

Additional guidance on running records in the additional resources section

 The PM Benchmark Kit (Nelson Thorne) is a very useful resource to ensure consistent and accurate levelling of children. This kit contains 30 texts ranging from below NC level 1 up to level 3. In addition there are also guidelines about administering and interpreting running records, prepared running records, assessment pro formas and comprehension questions which reduce preparation time considerably. This is also a resource, which can be purchased and used by schools very effectively from Reception to Year 2, and for specific target groups in KS2 whose progress and attainment level in reading are causing concern.

 You will need to have a Book Bands for Guided Reading as a resource to support the choice of books for the target group.

Ukays - Zikir Kasih

Oh Allah, I'm so afraid to read.

How many words she's read before, she's consumed two thousand books or more.
Musty pulp and glue soundproof her tiny room.
She cannot understand why this book in her hand
fascinates her now so much that she's almost shy to touch.
"Don't think about the words it's just a book - paper and ink"
She reaffirms, remind herself, "a book can't dictate what to think."
It invites, intrigues her more than others on her shelf
"Is it just another book?" - she sits questioning herself.

Oh Allah, she's so afraid to read,
the wisdom that's revealed may burrow in her mind
She'll be obliged to admit,
She'll be obliged to submit
But will she be strong enough to live the truth she finds?
Oh Allah, she's so afraid to read.

The hall light is always on every night that he is gone.
He hears his mother toss in bed when he slips in at dawn.
In the book case by the stair, he can see it sitting there
like a waiting watchful wise-man scolding him with care.
In the morning will they fight about him being out all night?
Will he resent their gift of love and not admit that they are right?
All he wants is to fit in some place, but must he compromise his faith?
He can't look himself or his parents in the face.
He takes the book upstairs unread and sets it closed next to his head
then counts the prayers he's missed and lays so hopelessly in bed.

Oh Allah, he's so afraid to read,
the wisdom that's revealed may burrow in his mind
He'll be obliged to admit,
He'll be obliged to submit
But will he be strong enough to live the truth he finds?
Oh Allah, he's so afraid to read.

I sent an email to my loved one, just the other day
It's sad communication has evolved this way.
We use so many words but have so little to relay
as angels scribble down every letter that we say.
All the viral attachments sent and passionate insults we vent
It's easy to be arrogant behind user passwords we invent.
But on the day the scrolls are laid, with every word and deed displayed,
when we read our accounts, I know, for one, I'll be afraid.

That day I'll be so afraid to read,
every harsh word that I've spoken - and every time I have lied.
I'll be obliged to admit,
I'll be obliged to submit
Will I have strength owning up to each deed I've tried to hide?
Oh Allah, I'm so afraid to read.

A Story Worth Reading

A Story Worth Reading

===

Since last night my young son has been unwell. When I got back from Work this evening I decided to take him to hospital despite my exhaustion.

There were many waiting; perhaps we will be delayed by more than an hour. I took my number and sat down in the waiting room. There were many faces, young and old, but all silent. Some brothers made use of the many booklets available in the waiting room.

Some of those waiting had their eyes closed, while others were looking around. Most were bored. Once in a while the long silence was broken by a nurse calling out a number. Happiness appears on the one whose turn it is, and he gets up quickly; then silence returns.

A young man grabbed my attention. He was reading a pocket-sized Qur`an continuously; not raising his head even once. At first I did not think much about him. However, after one hour of waiting my casual glances turned into a deep reflection about his lifestyle and how he utilizes his time. One hour of life wasted! Instead of making benefit of that hour, it was just a boring wait. Then the call for prayer was made. We went to prayer in the hospital's Masjid. I tried to pray close to the man who was reading the Qur'an earlier in the waiting room.

After the prayer I walked with him. I informed him of how impressed I was of him and how he tries to benefit from his time. He told me that most of our time is wasted without any benefit. These are days that go from our lives without being conscious of them or regretting their waste. He said that he started carrying the pocket-sized Qur`an around when a friend encouraged him to make full use of his time. He told me that in the time other people waste he gets to read much more of the Qur`an than he gets to read either at home or in the masjid. Moreover, besides the reward of reading the Qur`an, this habit saves him from boredom and stress.

He added that he has now been waiting for one and a half hours. Then he asked, when will you find one and a half hours to read the Qur`an? I reflected; How much time do we waste? How many moments of our lives pass by, and yet we do not account for how they passed by? Indeed, how many months pass by and we do not read the Qur`an? I came to respect my companion, and I discovered that I am to stand for account and that time is not in my hand; so what am I waiting for?

My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse calling out my number; I went to the doctor. But I want to achieve something now. After I left the hospital I quickly went to the bookshop and bought a pocket-sized Qur`an. I decided to be mindful of how I spend the time.
If this information is beneficial to you, then please do forward it to your friends and relatives.

The blue sky is blue but it prays to Allah

Lyrics: The blue sky is blue like blue bubble gum,
but it prays to Allah, it prays to Allah,
and like the flavour of the blue sky and the bubble gum wont last,
so weve got to thank Allah before our chances go past.

I dont wanna be a grown-up like the grown-ups I have seen,
`cause the grown-ups I have seen dont seem to have much fun.
They dont get down on the floor enough to pray or play with toys,
when Im a grown-up, I wont want to be one

Now, if I lived back at the time of the Prophet
I know that he would be different, I just know hed find the time and
I would make him something, special like some paper planes or something,
I could race those planes with him or get a camel back ride.

The blue sky is blue like blue bubble gum
but it prays to Allah, it prays to Allah,
and like the flavour of the blue sky and the bubble gum wont last,
so weve got to thank Allah before our chances go past.

Id like to write a promise, I want you to make it too,
that if I misbehave a little, like I sometimes do,
you wont get really mad and youll be patient like the prophet.
I really love my promise. How about you?

The blue sky is blue like blue bubble gum
but it prays to Allah, it prays to Allah
and like the flavour of the blue sky and the bubble gum wont last,
so weve got to thank Allah before our chances go past.

To be a Mommy or a Daddy must be really, really hard,
so lets take a break together, cause I know how much you try.
Lets have a dish of applesauce, then tumble in the yard
and we can pray and we can play along with the blue sky.

The blue sky is blue like blue bubble gum
but it prays to Allah, it prays to Allah
and like the flavour of the blue sky and the bubble gum wont last,
so weve got to thank Allah before our chances go past.

enggan berdoa?

...

doa dan bukan kebetulan or mujur

Tough world it is. But nothing can stop you when determination is there.

sifat rahmat Allah,

berdoa :

"ya Allah kamu ampunilah kami,

kerahmatan mu ya Allah, taufik hidayahmu,

permudahkanlah kehidupan kami.

berikanlah rezeki,

jika di langit, kau turunkanlah,

permudahkanlah pengajian kami.

permudahkanlah penyelidikan kami.

(Ayat 12 : Surah al-An’aam )

Dan Tuhanmu menciptakan apa yang dirancangkan berlakunya, dan Dialah juga yang memilih (satu-satu dari makhluk-Nya untuk sesuatu tugas atau keutamaan dan kemuliaan); tidaklah layak dan tidaklah berhak bagi sesiapapun memilih (selain dari pilihan Allah). Maha Suci Allah dan Maha Tinggilah keadaan-Nya dari apa yang mereka sekutukan dengan-Nya. { Ayat 68 : Surah al-Qasas }

fear of Allah

Sehingga sesudah itu kulit menjadi gementar, sebagaimana firman Allah yang bermaksud;

Air mata bercucuran ketika salah seorang di antara mereka mencerca dirinya sendiri dan memotivasinya;

Celaka kau, wahai diri

Mengunjungi orang yang ikhlas

Taatlah, ikhlaslah

Dengarkan dan camkan nasihat

Petik pengajaran

Dari yang telah pergi

Takutlah qadha yang datang tiba tiba

Dan waspadalah agar tidak terpadaya

Ia sentiasa takut sampai rasa takut itu dihentikan oleh rasa harap, dan ia mengingat bahawa rahmat Allah itu lebih besar dari murka Nya, sehingga keadaan rohani menjadi seimbang sebagaimana sabda Nabi SAW yang bermaksud;

b. Merasai kemanisan iman

Seperti mana sabda Rasulullah SAW yang bermaksud;

Cints kepada Allah merupakan sumber pertama kenikmatan ini, dan ia merupakan dasar iman yang berulangkali disebut dalam al Quran. Sepertimana Allah Taala berfirman yang bermaksud;

Cinta kepada Nabi SAW adalah penyempurna cinta kepada Allah Taala, dan tidak beriman seseorang yang bersaksikan Muhammad SAW adalah pesuruh Allah dan tidak mencintai Rasulullah SAW, sepertimana Nabi SAW bersabda yang bermaksud;

keyakinan bahawa..
TIADA TUHAN YANG AKU SEMBAH MELAINKAN ALLAH

Hidup ini memang susah

Hidup ini memang susah ....

The story of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) is the most detailed and fascinating story in the Quran, involving both human weaknesses such as jealousy, hatred, pride, passion, deception, intrigue, cruelty, and terror as well as noble qualities such as patience, loyalty, bravery, nobility, and compassion...

The life of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) related to the Quran

doa : Sesungguhnya saya sangat-sangat memerlukan Allah SWT. Sangat-sangat. Teramat sangat.

“ya Allah, ampuni dosa kami ya Allah. Ampuni dosa ibu bapa kami ya Allah. Ampuni dosa keluarga kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah, rahmatikan kami semua ya Allah.

Ya Allah, cukupkanlah keperluan kami ya Allah. Cukupkanlah keperluan anak-anak kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah angkatlah darjat kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah murahkanlah rezeki kami ya Allah. Murahkanlah rezeki anak-anak kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah berikan hidayah kepada kami ya Allah. Ajarkan kami cara terbaik untuk mendidik anak-anak kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah ajarkan kami cara bagaimana mahu beribadah kepadaMu ya Allah.

Ya Allah ajarkan kami bagaimana untuk sentiasa mengingatiMu ya Allah.

Ya Allah berikan rasa cinta kepadaMu dalam jiwa kami ya Allah.

Ya allah ajarkan kami bagaimana mahu menyelesaikan masalah-masalah kami ya Allah.

Ya Allah ajarkan aku bagaimana mahu mendidik isteri dan anak-anakku ya Allah (jika solat sendirian).

Ya Allah maafkanlah kami ya Allah.

Amin ya Allah. Terima kasih Allah SWT

Surah Ar-Rad Ayat 28

:)

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.

Surah Al-Noor. This is the beautify of the light of Allah!

Cameron: Teaching should be elitist

i like this article.

i could not agree less but more....

=======

David Cameron has set out plans to attract the brightest graduates into teaching, with an offer to pay off student loans and provide bonuses for those who perform best in the classroom.

source

Launching the Tories' draft education manifesto in south London, Mr Cameron said he wanted to take a "brazenly elitist" approach to improving teaching standards, by barring the profession to anyone who does not have a 2.2 degree or better and making it into "the noble profession".

He also announced plans for a Teach Now programme to allow people to transfer from professions such as banking and the law into teaching, saying "only the best professionals with the best qualifications need apply".

Mr Cameron said he would make it easier for headteachers to pay more to teachers who work longer hours and produce results in the classroom - and to fire those who perform badly.

And he also promised tougher discipline, with teachers given powers to search pupils, confiscate items and remove disruptive children. Schools will be given the final say over expulsions and teachers will be protected against false allegations of abuse, he said.

Mr Cameron said a Tory government would "renew the promise of a good education for all in our country".

He said: "The straightforward truth is that there aren't enough good schools in our country, and we're failing far too many of our children.

"Four in ten children leave primary school unable to read, write and add up properly. Half of pupils do not get five good GCSEs including English and maths. And we're slipping down the world league tables in maths and science.

"We can't go on like this. If we carry on excusing this kind of failure, we face a future where our most stubborn social problems get worse, not better, and where our economy gets left behind, as countries out-educate and out-compete us. So nothing else will do - we need big change in the way we do education in our country."

He said the key to boosting educational performance was improving the standards of teaching. "When a child steps through those school gates for the very first time, the most important thing that will determine if they succeed is not their background, or the curricula, or the type of school, or the amount of funding, it's who the teacher is," he said.

it seems all too hard!’

So in a nutshell: Write it down, break it down, ask yourself ‘What’s next?’ and then do it.

low GI diet?

It’s all to do with carbs and your blood sugar levels but it’s got nothing to do with fad diets such as the Atkins. The GI (glycemic index) is a physiologically based measure of the effect of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels.

Jennie Brand Miller (Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney) describes the low GI diet as follows:

“[The low GI diet is] a carbohydrate controlled diet because it is based on choosing low GI carbs that are slowly digested and absorbed, producing only gentle rises in your blood glucose and insulin levels”.

Carbs that break down rapidly during digestion, releasing glucose quickly into your blood have high GI values and carbs that break down slowly have low GI values.

So you may be thinking ‘Ok, great, but so what? What does all this mean for me and my body?’.

The benefits of a low GI diet

exercise helps to activate areas of the brain

exercise helps to activate areas of the brain

There is something quite amazing about moving your body that allows you to think more clearly and work more effectively.

Scientific studies have recently found that a number of benefits are associated with engaging in strenuous exercise. According to Dr John Ratey (Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and author of Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain) exercise helps to activate areas of the brain such that people are sharper, more attentive and less impulsive. In addition, exercise can lead to increased intelligence and lower stress levels.

Dr Ratey also stresses that by engaging in exercise you are helping to grow new brains cells, specifically in the areas of the brain associated with learning and memory (the hippocampus).

So what sort of exercise is best for your brain and will help you to learn more effectively?

Students frequently ask me “Is a 30 minute walk OK? Is that all I need to do?” A 30 minute walk will certainly help you to relax and unwind after a long day but there are much better forms of exercise that you can engage in to benefit your brain.

Dr Ratey suggests that aerobic exercise such as running, cycling and circuit training are all great ways to benefit your brain. He also suggest that by doing interval training (i.e. alternating six 30 second sprints with 60 seconds of jogging in between) two times a week can help to increase your learning ability by up to 20%!

“The more we challenge our bodies and brains, the stronger both become” he states.

‘The Boys from Baghdad High’

again on how to get motivated.....

‘The Boys from Baghdad High’

an eye opening documentary on SBS called ‘The Boys from Baghdad High’ (Produced/Directed: Ivan O’Mahoney and Laura Winter). Watching this beautifully made documentary put everything into perspective.

If you thought studying was hard here (in safe Western Australia) then perhaps studying in Iraq for even a day would do us all some good.

These young men were typical generation Yers. They were just like my Australian male friends. They liked listening to pop music, had mobile phones, surfed the internet, had girlfirends, joked around with each other, had dreams and hopes for the future, etc. The difference was they were forced to study with power cuts, to the sound of bombings and guns firing shots outside their homes, knowing their classmates/friends had been murdered and kidnapped and that they could be next. Most of their free time was spent at home as it was just too dangerous to go outside.

I can’t even begin to imagine how stressful that would be and the effect that kind of stress would have on studying for final year exams.

It was no surprise that school attendance and motivation/inspiration to study was low at the school the boys attended in Baghdad. It was also no surprise that they failed several of their final exams. But amazingly, given all the stress and trauma they experienced, most of the boys got through and graduated in the end.

This documentary was inspiring to say the least. I’ve been complaining about my honours thesis, but after seeing what these young men went though it just seems ridiculous to complain anymore.

If in need of inspiration or a new perspective on your life as a student, I recommend watching ‘The Boys from Baghdad High’. You will be deeply moved.

‘How to Mind Map’:

Ideally this is how you want your mind maps to be. Tony Buzan states in his book ‘How to Mind Map’:

“Use one key word per line. Why? Because single key words give your mind map more power and flexibility. Each single word or image is like a multiplier, generating its own special array of associations and connections…Phrases or sentences dampen this triggering effect.”

example

Laughter is the best medicine

Try to laugh and feel stressed at the same time. Can you do it? I bet $100 that you can’t. There is so much truth to the saying ‘Laughter is the best medicine’. 10 years ago Dr Kataria (inventor of laughter yoga) noticed that his patients who laughed more regularly appeared to have better immune systems, heal faster and appeared to be calmer than patients who did not laugh as much. The reason for this is that laughter releases endorphins, which is a chemical that gives you a natural high. So if you’re feeling stressed out, catch up with a friend who makes you laugh or watch a comedy show. If you can’t do that, force yourself to laugh. Say out loud ‘HA HA HA HA HA’ (I don’t recommend you do this in public) because the brain doesn’t know the difference between a fake laugh and a real one. In a nutshell, you can trick your brain into releasing those feel good, happy chemicals (endorphins).

9 Ways to Motivate Yourself When You Just Don't Feel Like It

by Skye Thomas

Achieving the really big goals and dreams always involves breaking it down into do-able little steps. Assuming that you've picked a goal or dream that you really love working at, then most of the steps are a delight to take. No matter how much you love your dream and no matter how much you love your work, there are going to be tasks along the way that you really don't want to do. Those pieces of work that we hate doing can be the very ones that sabotage our success. How do you stay motivated during those parts of the journey?

1) Reward yourself. Let's say that I want to lose twenty pounds. That's not too much, but it's still going to involve more days of self discipline that I feel like doing. So, I reward myself with a little treat every time I drop five pounds. I get to have one of my favorite fattening meals at the end of each five pound loss. Then I go back to my diet. At the end, I get to go on a shopping spree to buy new clothes. Come up with a reward that you can use to motivate yourself.

2) Do it for love of someone else. My teenage son proposed a deal that works for both of us. I don't smoke cigarettes and he doesn't experiment with drugs. Every time one of us is about to give in to temptation, our love for each other stops us. I can't light up knowing that he might start doing drugs because I broke our deal. He hates the idea of me dying of cancer, so he never touches any kinds of drugs offered to him by his peers. The love of someone else can motivate you to do what you otherwise might not be able to do for yourself.

3) Trade work with someone else. I've watched my kids perfect this style of motivation. My son will offer to scrub out the showers if my daughter will do the dishes for him. Hiring someone to do the work you don't want to do is actually a form of trade. Barter or pay someone else to do it for you, so that you can continue moving forward with your dreams.

4) Truly consider quitting. I'm not telling you to quit, but to really think about it. If you've got a goal or dream that means a lot to you and you've already invested a large part of yourself into making it happen, then what would quitting feel like? Is avoiding the difficult or distasteful task worth giving up on your goals and dreams? The love of your long-term goal can motivate you not to quit.

5) Share the misery. This reminds me of friends in college getting together to study for an upcoming test. Having friends along can make the experience more festive then it would have been if you were doing it alone. Is there a way to team up with a friend so that the work is easier or at least more enjoyable?

6) Just get it over with. One of my all time favorite quotes about getting past your inner blocks was written by Stuart Wilde in his book The Quickening, "Cut the shit and do the thing." Yeah it's a bit rough, but we all know those stoic tough people who simply roll up their sleeves and dive in know matter how much they may hate the task before them. Take on a soldier's mindset and just get to work doing the ugly parts so you can move on to the more rewarding parts of making your dreams a reality.

7) Get training or education. Quite often, we don't like doing something because deep down we don't think we know how or that we are talented enough. So, get the education, do the research, learn the necessary skills, or whatever else it is that you need to do to get ready for taking that next step. Once you've properly trained yourself, then you might even be enthusiastic about taking that next step.

8) Take a running start at it. Think of riding your bike uphill. It doesn't take kids very long to figure out that the best way to get that bicycle to the top of the steep hill is to build up a lot of speed before you even get to the base of the hill. You then let that momentum help to propel you most of the way up. Heck, with enough of a running start you can sometimes make it all the way up without any major struggles. If there is a way to pace yourself and reschedule the not so fun parts of accomplishing your goals until after you've completed a bunch of the cool parts, then do so. The highs of your mini successes will help inspire you to push past the parts that you are avoiding.

9) Figure out a different way to do it. This is the supreme way to avoid doing the task all together. Be creative, be smart, think outside the box. Is there any way to make your dream come true without having to actually do the specific duty that you're wanting to avoid? Sometimes you can find another way. Other times, just knowing that there is definitely no other path to your dreams other than the one before you is enough to motivate you to just buck up and get through it.

What's most important is not how you keep yourself motivated but that you keep the long-term benefits of your goals in mind. If you focus too much on avoiding the uncomfortable parts of accomplishing your goals, then you won't accomplish much. Find a way to keep going and remember that all things come with a price. Pay the price so you can get on with enjoying the dream.

How to Motivate Yourself to Study

==============

Studying can be one of life's most boring and mundane activities. In fact, the very nature of studying goes against the basic human desire to maximize pleasure; studying barely registering on any human pleasure scale. But you can alter your basic urge to resist the rigors of studying by reminding yourself of a few basic, but important, truths!

#

Remind Yourself of Your Purpose - What are your goals in life? Where do you see yourself 5, 10, or even 20 years down the road? The time that you spend studying now will help to make your future dreams and aspirations a reality. Whether you are working towards a degree, a special skill, or some type of personal enrichment, the act of studying is like a bridge between where you are now and where you want to be in the future!
#
Step 2

Realize Knowledge is Power - A well-educated person is a powerful person. Knowledge is priceless. A well-educated, knowledgeable person is a person who is better able to navigate and excel within the world around him/her. Think about how much more knowledge and ability you are gaining each time you sit down to study!
#
Step 3

Dare Yourself to Succeed - Make it a point to dare yourself to surpass any real or imagined barriers that have been standing in your way. Personal achievement and fulfillment are wonderful things; allow yourself to do the things that can only contribute to your personal achievement and fulfillment - like studying!
#
Step 4

Make a Decision - The difference between a mediocre result and an extraordinary result is more often than not related to effort. Do you want to be a mediocre student or person, or do you want to rise high and sail the heights? Forcing yourself to sit down and study, even when you don't feel like it, is a personal achievement in and of itself. Build on that!

Saya terapkan pelbagai konsep dakwah melalui penyelidikan. “Marilah kita membantu mereka yang ingin belajar. Jangan kedekut ilmu, jangan berkira dan sentiasalah berdoa supaya Allah permudahkan apa yang ingin kita lakukan”.

anak kamu telah mempelajari Al-Qur'an

AL-QUR'AN SEBAGAI PEMBELA DI HARI AKHIRAT

Abu Umamah r.a. berkata : "Rasulullah S.A.W telah menganjurkan supaya kami semua mempelajari Al-Qur'an, setelah itu Rasulullah S.A.W memberitahu tentang kelebihan Al-Qur'an."

Kemudian berkata orang yang pernah membaca Al-Qur'an itu : "Adakah kamu Al-Qur'an?"
