Why should children's development be holistic and how is each area interconnected?

Why should children's development be holistic and how is each area interconnected?

Holistic is all round development Physical cognitive social emotional

Holistic means interconnected or complete; when a child learns to walk they begin to learn about consequences, trip -fall over- get up. Speech is connected to communication which connects to knowledge of the environment etc. By ensuring a fully rounded appraoch a child becomes confident in their surrounding and their abilities.

=====================

Holistic means the whole person, physically, emotionally, spiritually. It is simple when you look at it, if a child's needs are not met it is harder for them to learn. If they are hungry or sick for example they will not feel like playing. We teach as well as provide for them and just generally take care of them and love them.

k2d45
holistic development is looking at how a activivity can support a child in all developmental areas. for example

threading( cereal necklaces)

communication and language

* using mathematical language i.e shorter/longer etc

children must be able to understand what is expected

personal social emotional

* sharing resources participating enjoying and achieving cooperating
can take end product home

physical

* fine motor skills hand eye co-ordination manipulation skills

cognitive

* listen to instructions counting adding measuring comparing

THIS IS JUST A EXAMPLE ACTIVITY BUT CHOSE ANY ACTIVITY AND THEN FILL THE DEVELOPMENAL AREAS IN LIKE ABOVE. JUST THIS ALONE WILL ANSWER K2D45. IF DONE CORRECTLY.

..

an easy way to look at this is trying to fit an activity into just one area of learning - it can't be done !!

So for example an activity like making paints up would cover K+U (what happens to the powder paint when you put water into it) CLL new words/language that may come up as you are talking about colours/cause and effect, PSE co operating with others, Phys skills needed to mix paint,pour the water etc, maths (how much water, more, less, enough etc) creative - using imagination what will happen do you think, etc etc.
